Dear Fred:

As promised to be back with a more definitive response on the Celebrate the Software Freedom Song Day, we have revised the licensed to CC BY SA and clearly stated in our web page http://labs.cre8tivetech.com/software-freedom-day-song/license/.

We thank you for enlightening us on such restrictions that may be brought about by marking it as NC and introducing us to the concept of creator endorsed mark.

We really do hope that with the little contribution that we shared, the SFD Celebration worldwide will be more cheerful, exciting and lively.

Btw, we re-uploaded the audio with an enhanced guitar version. You may also want to check it on this site http://labs.cre8tivetech.com/software-freedom-day-song/music-and-lyrics/

More Power to you, the SFI team and to all advocates of this noble endeavor.

Cheers,

Meric

Dear Meric,

Thanks a lot for the great song! Definitely a worthy addition to our
marketing tools for team organizers.

I do have a small problem regarding the license being NC. Organizing a
SFD event means that some team will raise funds and maybe even make
money (for themselves or the organization they represent). So in that
context NC being so vague could conflict with such an event.

NC is also a lot more restrictive than GPL

Nina Paley has a good blog post related to the issue which you can read
here:

And then some more:

With this in mind it would be really nice if you could re-license the
song under a CC-BY-SA or CC-BY

Thanks a lot for your consideration and looking forward to reading from
you soon.

Fred
