Dear all,

It is with great pleasure (and a bit of delay) that we're announcing the
results of the Best 2009 SFD Event Competition. Many thanks to all the
participants, organizers and sponsors for being here with us each year
on SFD date since 2004 and making it happen. We saw some excellent
examples of how to take software freedom to local communities, and we
were inspired, as you all will be to see some of the outcomes and
reports. Definitely a great read while you're still in the last stage of
your preparations before the big day.

Now to the prizes: the three outstanding teams will receive a Tux-Droid
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tux_Droid) and a trophy. The highly
commended entries will receive a certificate for their excellent
submissions.

We want to extend a warm congratulations in particular to the three
winners (in no particular order):
     * Bluepoint Linux User Elite
     * FOSS Nepal
     * 8Layertech

and the three highly commended entries:
     * KN FOSS
     * TTCS Web
     * Emakulam

Please do read more about the entries along with their reports in our
competition 2009 results page here:
http://www.softwarefreedomday.org/en/competition/winners-2009

You will also have noticed that the 2010 Best Event Competition has been
announced together with the prizes for this year. The rules will be
finalized by the end of the month, but don't expect any drastic change:

We hope you're all as much excited as us to see Makerbot Industries (a
3D open source printer) joining the rank of our supporters, and that
will stimulate you to better document your event. Remember that the
recommend hashtag is #softwarefreedomday and all the best for Saturday
(or any other day if you had to find a better day)!

Thank you all.
