I think the best answer to that is here:

Software Freedom is about trustworthy, transparent and sustainable software.
It is kind of the practical outcomes of much Free Software but we wanted
something broader that encapsulates what our entire community cares about.

I think Software Freedom is also good because it removes the confusion (in
english anyway) of free as in gratis :)
